Gardening and making art take contemporary and mixed media artist Lisa Crowder to the same place. Her practice emerged organically from her garden studio on the southern coast of Kaurna Yarta, where the lines between nature and creativity blur.
Underpinned by environmental care 'Imbues Hues' intertwines threads pulled from disparate, natural works. Just as a garden takes time to grow, these works weave together drawings and textiles from previous studies spanning many years. Reworked with layers of botanical dyes and pigments, the works on paper, canvas and tapestries were created with the constant rhythm of nearby ocean waves. The dance between control and surrendering to chance and organic abandonment has become a signature of Lisa's explorations.
As a selected artist of the Helpmann Graduation Exhibition 2026, Lisa was awarded the prestigious prize and opportunity to exhibit in the Mount Horrocks cellar door. Now showing during July and August within the repurposed and historic railway station at Auburn, be sure to call in and view while enjoying a glass of one of the Clare Valley's finest wines!
