Project leader and PIRSA soil & land management senior consultant Andrew Harding demonstrated the latest mapping technologies and delivered the findings from the mapping of the five sites. This informed the hands-on soils investigations addressed at the vineyard soil pits.
Growers gained an understanding about some key properties of soils such as texture, structure, pH and organic carbon and how they influence soil health.
The presenters also drilled down into soil constraints such as soil acidity, salinity, sodicity, dispersal and slaking and walked growers through calculating the Readily Available Water for vines.
