Every year, there is a lot of anticipation in the lead up to the unveiling of Halliday’s Top 100 Wines. While the Halliday Wine Companion provides a comprehensive guide to Australian wine, the Top 100 is a more definitive list and an invaluable guide to some of Australia’s finest wines.
940 wines were tasted this year, ranging in price from $15 to $480. Influenced by value for money and the imperative to offer a balanced and representative choice across varieties and regions, James chooses his Top 100 wines of the year.
Within this highly competitive group of wines, the Kilikanoon Mort’s Block Watervale Riesling 2022 was highlighted as one of the Top White Wines under $30! Only four Clare Rieslings made the coveted list.
Here’s what James had to say, “Old, low-yielding vines. Light, bright green-quartz. The delicately perfumed bouquet takes some coaxing to reveal itself, the palate following without the need of persuasion. It is bright and lively, bringing citrus, Granny Smith apple, and slinky acidity from the first sip through to the lingering finish."

The 2022 vintage will go down as one of the greats and it shows across the wines made from the year. These wines are offering superb value for wine lovers, whether to drink now or put in the cellar.
