Sevenhill Cellars is today celebrating the announcement of their 2022 Inigo Riesling being awarded the Best Australian Dry White Wine at the prestigious Hong Kong International Wine and Spirit Competition (HK IWSC).

The IWSC was established in 1969 and is recognised as one of the world’s most influential wine competitions with exhibitors from almost ninety countries being judged by highly qualified international industry professionals. A judging panel of fifty-six judges sampled wines from thirty-eight participating countries.

The Clare Valley’s first winery, Sevenhill Cellars began operating in 1851 and after 171 years has emerged with a reputation for quality, award-winning table wines.

The 2022 Inigo Riesling is estate grown from three unique blocks on the Sevenhill property, with harvest taking place from the 1st to the 4th of March. The grapes were crushed and chilled prior to gentle pressing. Each block was cold fermented separately using three different yeast strains, with the intent on focusing primarily on fruit vibrancy and purity.

“It’s an honour to have been awarded such a prestigious trophy” Winemaker Will Shields states, “I joined the Sevenhill team in 2019 and have been fortunate to work with an established portfolio of wines and exceptional vineyards. We are continually working to evolve the style and quality of our wines, with this 2022 Inigo Riesling being a good example of our winemaking philosophy”.

Viticulturist at Sevenhill Cellars for 23 years, Craig Richards attributes the success to maintaining sustainable practices, stating “We’ve worked to have minimal environmental impact, enhancing the natural balance and soil health. I’m passionate about our wines being an expression of the Sevenhill subregion, and we are continually looking at ways we can improve our practices. An award like this is a great acknowledgement of the work we’re doing across the whole business.”

Jonathan O’Neill, General Manager, goes on to add “The entire team at Sevenhill Cellars are incredibly excited by this news. It’s a wonderful honour for the Riesling to be acknowledged on the world stage, and to have picked up another seven awards, including Gold for our 2019 St Ignatius Cabernet Blend, is testament to the Viticulture and Winemaking teams”. The 2022 Inigo Riesling retails at $25 a bottle and shows the vast evolution occurring at Sevenhill Cellars.

We are proud we can produce wines that represent the best of our region, to win this award with a Clare Valley Riesling is incredibly special.
